Author quick guideline

Author Guidelines

Manuscripts must be prepared in clear, concise English and submitted in MS Word (or compatible). The text should be double-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman with margins of at least 2.5 cm. Pages must be numbered consecutively, and line numbering is recommended to facilitate review.

Title Page Requirements
The title page must include:

  1. Title: A concise and informative title.

  2. Authors: Full names of all authors, each followed by their complete institutional affiliation (Department, Institution, City, Country).

  3. Author Emails: Provide the email address of every author (preferably institutional or professional).

  4. Corresponding Author: Full contact details of the corresponding author, including postal address, email, and phone number.

  5. Running Title: A short running title not exceeding 50 characters.

Abstracts should summarize the essential content of the paper. For original research articles, the abstract should be structured under the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion, and should not exceed 300 words. Reviews and Perspectives require an unstructured abstract of 150–250 words. Four to six keywords should be placed immediately below the abstract.

Original research articles should normally be arranged as Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion. Results and Discussion may also be presented as a single combined section, depending on the nature of the study. A separate Conclusion may be added if warranted. Review articles (invited only), Perspectives, and Commentaries may adopt a flexible structure but must begin with a clear introduction and conclude with a critical summary or outlook. Short Communications and Technical Notes should not exceed 2,500 words and should focus on concise presentation of new data or methodology. News and Commentary are limited to 1,500 words.

Figures should be inserted near their first mention in the text and also submitted separately as high-resolution files (TIFF, JPEG, or EPS; minimum 300 dpi). Each figure must be numbered consecutively (Fig. 1, Fig. 2, etc.) and accompanied by a descriptive caption placed below the figure. Tables should appear in the text close to their first citation, numbered consecutively, with a short title above and explanatory footnotes below.

References must follow the numbered Vancouver style. In the text, references should be cited in square brackets as [1], [2,3], or [4–6]. The reference list should be arranged in the order of citation. Examples of the correct format are given below:

Journal article:

  1. Smith J, Kumar P. Advances in algal nanomaterials. J Nanoscience. 2022;15(3):120-35.

Book:
2. Brown T. Plant Biotechnology: Concepts and Applications. Berlin: Springer; 2019.

Book chapter:
3. Mehta SK, Pradhan RB. Cyanobacteria and heavy metal remediation. In: Sharma A, Gupta P, editors. Applied Microbial Biotechnology. Amsterdam: Elsevier; 2021. p. 210-30.

Conference paper:
4. Singh R. Nanocellulose composites in wastewater treatment. In: Proc Int Conf Environ Mater; 2020; Tokyo. p. 56-62.

All measurements must use SI units. Botanical names and Latin species names should be italicized. Abbreviations must be defined at first mention. Supplementary material such as datasets, extended tables, or multimedia files may be submitted as electronic appendices.

Research involving humans, animals, or genetic resources must include a statement of ethical approval and informed consent where applicable. Declarations of conflict of interest and funding support are mandatory.

The journal publishes the following categories: Original Research Articles (4,000–7,000 words, up to eight figures/tables), invited Reviews (6,000–10,000 words), Perspectives/Opinions (2,000–4,000 words), Short Communications or Technical Notes (1,500–2,500 words), and News/Commentary (up to 1,500 words).

Authors must provide five potential referees (name, affiliation, institutional email).

SI: Bioinspired Materials — Research Articles

Submissions for the Special Issue ‘Bioinspired Materials’. Out-of-scope submissions may be desk-rejected.

Research Articles

Research Articles present original and innovative research findings across all fields of science and technology. Submissions should demonstrate clear methodology, significant results, and meaningful conclusions. Manuscripts are subject to double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. Authors are required to follow the journal’s formatting and ethical guidelines.

Perspectives

Perspectives are concise, thought-provoking articles that present new ideas, interpretations, or critical commentary on emerging issues in science and technology. Unlike review articles, perspectives are more opinion-driven and forward-looking, aiming to spark discussion, challenge conventional views, or propose novel hypotheses.

  • Word Count: Maximum 2,500 words (excluding references, figures, and tables).

  • Figures/Tables: Authors may include up to 1 figure or 1 table.

  • Authorship: Perspectives are generally invited or pre-approved submissions; unsolicited submissions may be considered at the discretion of the editorial team.

  • Peer Review: All perspectives will undergo peer review to ensure relevance, clarity, and scholarly value.

  • Content: Should emphasize originality, conceptual novelty, and potential impact rather than exhaustive literature coverage.

Short Communications

Short Communications present brief reports of original research, preliminary findings, or novel methods that are of significant scientific interest but may not warrant a full-length research article. These contributions are intended to rapidly disseminate important results to the scientific community.

  • Word Count: Maximum 2,000 words (excluding references, figures, and tables).

  • Figures/Tables: Authors may include a maximum of 2 figures and/or tables combined.

  • Authorship: Open for submission, subject to editorial approval.

  • Peer Review: All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review to ensure scientific accuracy and relevance.

  • Content: Must report novel, concise, and self-contained results. Extended datasets and supplementary materials may be provided as online appendices.
